Coming to you live from Carter's Barbershop in Chicago's North Lawndale neighborhood, The Barbershop Show brings you a weekly dose of real talk, straight from the shop floor. No punches are pulled and no topic is considered off-topic. Hosted by WBEZ's Richard Steele (produced by Ayana Contreras). Airs every Friday at 12pm CST on Vocalo.org and 89.5 FM.

On tomorrow’s Barber Shop Show, we’re joined by Adam Poss and Rashaad Hall (who play Drew and Nicky, respectively) in the Goodman Theatre’s production of Christopher Shinn’s “Teddy Ferrara”. They are pictured above. The play was inspired by the life and death of gay Rutgers University student Tyler Clementi. Clementi killed himself in 2010 after his roommate secretly taped him having sex with another man, and put the video online. We’re also talking about real issues impacting LGBTQ youth, especially minority youth coming out on the South and West Sides. We’ll talk about their struggle for resources and recognition in their communities. To that end, we’ll also be joined by Shannon Sullivan, Executive Director of the Illinois Safe Schools Alliance. The Alliance’s mission is to promote safety, support and healthy development for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth, in Illinois schools and communities. We will also be joined by Fresco Steez, a 21 year old LGBTQ advocate/activist who works with Affinity, a South Side LGBTQ advocacy organization.
